Pixel on the Parallel

Pixels Program Overview:

Our programs incorporate drawing, story telling and most of all creativity! Each student will have the opportunity to work with and learn the appropriate animation program and by the end of a session, have created their own “short” which will go home on a CD or can loaded onto an iPod.

Ages 6 to 10: Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30pm
Welcome to the wonderful world of 2D animation as you create using a WACOM tablet and Flip Boom Classic Software. Come with a story and characters in mind, draw your images and animate a cartoon adventure that you can share with family and friends!

Ages 11 to 17: Wednesdays, 7:30-9pm
These classes will take you into the more advanced use of the Toon Boom suite of products and animation techniques. Students will also be introduced to different aspects of animation including basic cartooning and character development. Students will be given a small, structured animation assignment to prepare them for using more complex animation techniques, as well as time to develop their own animated short.

Our Animation Team

Kevan Murray brings life to our studio and our first, full-length animation (more on that later!) From Gravenhurst, she received her Bachelor of Fine Art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Presently, she is adjusting to adulthood in Bracebridge where she works as an animator by day and dreamer and doodler by night.

Kyle Matthews is our newest member of the team, bringing some design background into the melting pot of art and teaching. After spending time at York University for Fine Arts Film Studies, Kyle found his calling to be in graphic and web design, and will be helping with instructing.

Summer Instructors:

Emily Thaler attends U of Guelph, majoring in Geography with a minor in GIS (mapping). She enjoys writing, the outdoors, playing the bagpipes and learning to hand glide! Little did Em know when she joined us for Auto Cad and construction, that she would become an animator; jointly running the studio!

Anne Thaler is entering her fourth (and final!) year at U of Guelph, majoring in both Environmental Governance and International Development. Anne has her “Woah, Bear” license, likes canoeing, squash, coffee and woodworking(!) and picking on Kevan.

What’s in a Name?

67 Muskoka students, grades 1 through 12, entered ideas for a name and a logo in May 2009, judging took place and the winners were picked. The name of the Six Degrees Muskoka Digital Studio chosen was “PIXELS ON THE PARALLEL“. We ended up awarding 3 LAPTOPS to our 3 FINALISTS and t-shirts to our 12 Honourable Mention entrants! Who won? Who judged? Read more…
